Ville de Carpentras
Carpentras enjoys an exceptional location. At the foot of the 'Giant of Provence', the city is half way between Avignon and Orange. With 30,360 inhabitants, its growing demographics makes it the second city of Vaucluse. Carpentras is the capital of the Comtat Venaissin, and is part of its Urban Community.
The artistic and historic city has always fascinated its visitors with its historical monuments and narrow streets full of memories.
The economy of the Carpentras area – historically based on agricultural production and processing – has maintained its industry whilst developing tertiary activities. A key city with 1/3 of the area's activities, Carpentras has strong individual entrepreneurship.
The city is growing more and more attractive. Major structure projects have been devised to give new life to Carpentras and make it an active city: the 'Coulée Verte', the transfer of the Inguimbertine museum-library to Hôtel Dieu, the development of the cycle path network, the reopening of the Avignon-Carpentras railway line, and the National Programme for the Redevelopment of Run-Down Districts.
